The Grapevine Mountains

The Grapevine Mountains are an east-northeast – west-southwest trending range, about 11 miles west of Rhyolite, Nevada. The range straddles the California-Nevada state line.

The Grapevine Mining Company of Nevada

Certificate No. 168.  One Thousand Shares to David E. McCallops, September 13, 1905. Fred G. Cox, Vice President; G. S. Johnson, Secretary.

Between August and December of 1905, Mr. E. M. Binford, President of the Grapevine Mining Company received a lot of ink in The Goldfield News. Binford made several round trips from Goldfield to the mine, reporting gold assays as high as $5,260. The newspaper also reported that the nearest water source, a spring, was five miles distant from the mine.

Apparently, Binford moved on to other mining interests in the Slate Range. As the year 1905 came to an end, nothing more is reported of Grapevine Mining, until The Goldfield News made a final report in July 1908 that Binford had six men back at the mine.
